Review: TMNT Best of Splinter (IDW)

The TMNT “Best of” series continues with everyone’s favorite sensei– Splinter! Wise and with a tragic past, Splinter forms the core of the Turtle family. Taking stories from multiple publishers, this is the book to read for Splinter’s greatest tales!

This 100 page greatest hits one shot contains 4 different comics.

As a one shot I will be tackling this review slightly differently to my usual format. I have been an off and on fan of TMNT comics over the years so reading these best of series is a great way to refresh yourself with the different characters and to help you decide which characters you connect with more.

The four stories in this book display Splinters different representations over the years across the different publishers. From the old and wise mentor to the Turtles in the sewers of Manhattan to a warrior in feudal Japan. There is something for everyone in this book and it’s very much like a greatest hits album for your favourite band, you know every song or every page will be awesome.

The opening story TMNT Adventures #45 is the best place to start for casual comics fans as it’s the most closely related to the cartoons and is a classic showdown between the Turtles and Shredder.

I read this via an advance preview copy issued by IDW Publishing and received no incentive to review this comic. All images and artwork are courtesy of IDW Publishing and their respective owners.
